Trojan↗ (or Trojan horse) is malware↗ disguised as legitimate, desirable software, a free tool, a cracked app, an invoice attachment, that tricks the user into installing it themselves. Unlike a worm↗ or virus, a Trojan doesn't self-replicate; it relies entirely on deception to get in.
Once installed, a Trojan can open a backdoor↗, steal data, or install further malware, all while the disguise it arrived in continues running normally so the victim suspects nothing. Downloading software only from trusted, official sources is the main defense.
