Spyware

Spyware↗ is a category of malicious software that secretly monitors a user's activity, keystrokes, browsing history, messages, even camera and microphone access, and sends the collected information back to a third party without the user's knowledge or consent. Unlike more disruptive malware↗, spyware is specifically designed to stay hidden for as long as possible.

Spyware often gets onto a device bundled with seemingly legitimate free software, through malicious email attachments, or via compromised websites. Signs of a spyware infection can include unusual battery drain, unexpected data usage, or a device running slower than normal, and removal typically requires a reputable anti-malware scan combined with reviewing which apps have unusual permissions.
