Script Kiddie
An unskilled attacker who uses pre-built hacking tools and scripts written by others rather than developing their own techniques.
A script kiddie↗ is an attacker with limited technical skill who relies on pre-written tools, scripts, and exploit↗ kits created by more experienced hackers rather than developing their own attack techniques. The term is often used dismissively, but script kiddies can still cause real damage since many publicly available tools are powerful and easy to run.
Because these attackers typically scan the internet broadly for any vulnerable target rather than pursuing a specific victim, basic security hygiene, keeping software patched, using strong passwords, and closing unnecessary exposed services, blocks the vast majority of their attempts.
