A password manager↗ is an application that securely stores all of your account passwords in one encrypted vault, protected by a single master password, and can automatically generate and fill in strong, unique passwords for each site you use. This solves the core problem behind most password-related breaches: people reusing the same weak password across many accounts because remembering dozens of unique ones is impractical.
With a password manager, you only need to remember one strong master password (ideally combined with multi-factor authentication↗), and the tool handles generating and entering long, random, unique passwords everywhere else. Most modern browsers and operating systems now include a basic password manager built in, and dedicated third-party options add features like secure sharing and cross-device sync.
