Information Security

The broader practice of protecting information and information systems from unauthorized access, use, or disclosure.

·1 min read

Information security (often shortened to InfoSec) is the broader discipline of protecting information, in any form, digital, printed, or spoken, from unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. Cybersecurity is technically a subset of information security focused specifically on digital systems and networks.

Information security programs are typically built around the CIA triad: confidentiality, integrity, and availability. A well-run program covers everything from encrypting a database to shredding sensitive paper documents to training employees not to discuss confidential matters in public.
