Dark Web
A hidden part of the internet, accessible only with special software, often used for anonymous and sometimes illegal activity.
The dark web↗ is a hidden portion of the internet that isn't indexed by standard search engines and requires special software, most commonly Tor, to access. It provides strong anonymity for both visitors and site operators, which makes it attractive for legitimate privacy-focused uses as well as illegal marketplaces selling stolen data, drugs, or hacking tools.
Stolen credentials, credit card numbers, and personal data breached from companies frequently end up for sale on dark web marketplaces. Many identity-protection services now monitor the dark web and alert users if their information appears there.
