AI Governance
The policies, rules, and oversight structures that guide the responsible development and deployment of AI systems.
AI governance↗ refers to the policies, rules, oversight structures, and decision-making processes that guide how an organization develops, deploys, and monitors AI systems responsibly. It covers everything from who is allowed to approve a new AI use case, to how risks are assessed, to how the system is monitored once it's in production.
Good AI governance tries to balance innovation with accountability: making sure AI systems are fair, transparent, and safe, while still allowing an organization to actually benefit from the technology. As AI regulation matures around the world (for example, the EU AI Act), formal governance structures are increasingly becoming a legal requirement rather than just a best practice, particularly for higher-risk AI applications.
