# Cyber Espionage

State-sponsored or organized hacking aimed at secretly stealing sensitive government, military, or corporate information.

**Cyber espionage[↗](/cyber-espionage)** is the use of hacking techniques, often by nation-states or well-resourced groups, to secretly infiltrate networks and steal sensitive government, military, or corporate information. Unlike financially motivated cybercrime, the goal is usually intelligence gathering, competitive advantage, or geopolitical leverage.

These campaigns tend to be highly targeted and patient, sometimes remaining undetected inside a network for months or years while quietly exfiltrating data. Defending against them typically requires advanced threat detection and monitoring for unusual, low-and-slow activity rather than obvious attacks.
